"SDS: The path to innovation in a changing world"
SDS is a bilingual school in Santiago, Dominican Republic and is recognized by the Ministry of Education. It provides the official curriculum of the country in addition to the American Curriculum at all levels of study. It is important for us to create a safe and healthy school environment that focuses on a well-rounded, modern education.
-
The proactive leadership team is led by the Academic Director. The leadership team is a group of Educators and Psychologists who are bilingual, experienced and qualified to support parents, students and teachers in the learning process.
-
Teachers are encouraged to work as a team. They are qualified and selected not only for their knowledge in different subject areas, but their ability to manage the diverse and challenging classroom needs in modern education. In-service training equips teachers with new skills.
-
Family involvement: SDS provides multiple opportunities for parents to take part in their children’s education with easy access to communicate with staff, the leadership team and the academic Director.
At SDS, the Bilingual Academic Curriculums provide:
-
Dual-language program, emphasizing that both Spanish and English are of equal importance with the purpose of preparing students for Universities in the Dominican Republic and abroad. The main subjects are taught in both languages and complementary subjects and projects vary according to grade level. Academic Resources are from the USA and the Dominican Republic.
-
An interactive learning space: where students are organized in age groups. The schedule is organized so that students can move between inside and outside spaces at different times during the day. In this way, SDS provides a balance of well-structured classes with the freedom to explore the student’s potential, promote curiosity, creativity and critical-thinking activities.
-
Positive reinforcement strategies: in a well-structured environment actively engaging the school community through special events and class interventions throughout the year to promote traditional values, emotional and spiritual well-being, character building, self-management, individual responsibility and empathy. Our goal is to prepare our students, according to their individual needs, during each level of Preschool, Primary, Junior High and High School, to become self-regulating and competent individuals reinforcing important life-skills.
-
Digital literacy is an important part of the modern world. Technology is integrated into student learning, although screen time is limited, especially for Pre-school and Primary school students. Students are encouraged in Junior High and High School to engage in projects through our STEM Program (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics). At SDS we consider a hybrid approach, the most healthy and pro-active manner for students learning. Students are engaged in active learning within their classroom, and in the many learning centers within the school, such as the library, science lab, music room, and outdoor sports areas.
-
On-line Learning Options: Digital learning includes instruction in the technology lab, virtual labs, instruction in science and geography and the use of a variety of digital learning sites within the classroom and at home. Students who miss class for any reason can follow-up on their work via the on-line platform.
