Our
COMMUNITY

Get to know our wonderful educational community and how we all work together to achieve academic success for our students.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Parents and guardians should be encouraged to be involved in school activities. We expect that the education of their children will be considered a priority. On the part of the institution, monthly report cards are a way of communicating both academic and personal development to parents. Teachers may also contact parents personally, by phone or by email. Decisions of greater importance or gravity should be discussed with the corresponding coordinator before being communicated to parents. Parents also have a responsibility to find the appropriate channels to maintain communication with the school, because otherwise, the needs of the student will not be met.

The best teaching is by example, so we ask all adults: teachers, administrative and maintenance staff, and SDS family members, to behave responsibly. If we require students to arrive punctually, be honest and courteous, and come to school properly dressed, we must require the same from adults.

The Parents' Association and the Student Council are vehicles to ensure the proper functioning and participation of the educational community.

Every year a new board of directors of the Association of Parents, Teachers and Friends of the School is elected. Their role is to support the school, to ensure: a quality service; to provide financial support for improvement projects and to strengthen the channels of communication between the school and the home. The committee is made up of the following members: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, President of the Disciplinary Committee, Representatives of each class or course, President of the Student Council; Representatives of the Teaching Staff and the Academic Director who has a role as a consultant.

The student council is the voice of the students. It is the mechanism for students to communicate, as a group, with the school about their concerns, ideas, and goals. It is also a two-way channel of communication between students and the institution and the way in which students can organize as a group, take responsibility, develop leadership, and cooperation. Each class elects its representatives, which shall include the following positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Other positions may be included at the discretion of the student body. Due to age differences, representatives will be organized into the following groups: 1st-4th Grade; 5th-8th Grade; High School. One High School student serves on the Disciplinary Committee.

Regular Parental Involvement in School Life

How can parents serve as an example for us?

  • Drive carefully and with consideration for others in the parking lot.

  • Adults should also come to school in appropriate clothing.

  • Arrive at school on time, establishing a routine that allows the student to stay positive: setting age-appropriate rules for bedtime; helping students learn to be organized by making sure they have their uniform, snack, snack money, and school supplies ready; avoiding fights on the way; and finally sending the child off in a positive way.

  • Make sure the student has a healthy diet. If the student is going to eat school lunch, they should know in advance.

  • Do not give the entire amount of money to older siblings who do NOT have the same recess and lunch schedule, to prevent the child from disrupting other children's classes.

  • Parents are allowed to participate in the Flag Ceremony and their child's lunch. This is NOT a time for a parent-teacher conference. Please remember that they have little downtime or other commitments to make with their students.

  • Bring lunch food on time, so that the student follows the rest schedule assigned to his or her grade.

Parents should not take charge of disciplinary matters; they should allow teachers and Coordinators to act on their behalf.

School Staff: Supervising recess and lunch

The school has a schedule for supervising breaks and lunch. This means that not all teachers are in charge of supervision, because some of them are also on break time. However, in an emergency, they will be more than willing to cooperate. The teachers in charge of supervision are standing in different parts of the area.

Parents can cooperate, taking into account the following rules:

  • Do not bring strangers to the school. If you wish to enter with a visitor, permission must be requested in advance from the principal.

  • Do not discuss adult matters or make inappropriate criticisms in front of students.

  • Discuss your suggestions, concerns and worries with the school staff to help us correct errors and improve our educational service.

  • We appreciate your help in keeping the cafeteria tidy and clean. Unfortunately, many children do not bother to pick up and take their belongings home, or they neglect to throw away or take our cutlery.

  • Under no circumstances should a parent punish his/her child by raising his/her voice or physically punishing him/her at school.

  • Under no circumstances should a parent punish a student by raising his or her voice or attacking him or her. A parent who acts in this way is acting outside the law.

The good behavior of our students:

  1. Students must wash their hands in the designated area for their grade before eating.

  2. Students must line up and wait to be called by a cafeteria staff member before proceeding to the counter.

  3. The microwave is not available during recess.

  4. Unless students are standing in line waiting for their food, they must sit at tables for the first few minutes of recess. They will then be allowed to use the restroom and play on the playground. Under no circumstances are students allowed to eat on the playground or take plates, glasses, cups, etc. out of the cafeteria.

  5. Students should eat and (sit) properly, displaying good table manners.

  6. If they do not have food, their homeroom teacher must speak with their parents. Even if they do not have a snack or food, the student must sit at the table during the first few minutes of recess.

  7. After eating, each group of students must clean their table. All trash will be placed in the trash can; cups, glasses and plates will be placed in the large plastic container provided for this purpose and lunch boxes will be put away and closed before leaving the play area.

  8. The table monitor must clean the table after everyone is finished.

  9. At the end of recess, students must pick up their lunch boxes and take them to class.
